October 2017 Message

This year marks the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther’s historic event of presenting his 95 Theses (a list of questions and propositions for debate) at the castle church in Wittenberg, Germany, the spark that ignited the fire of the Protestant Reformation.  The Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer is making plans to commemorate the occasion.  Activities are being planned for the evening of Oct. 28 which will include a German meal fundraiser, a theatrical portrayal of Luther and his wife Katy, and a spectacular Ecumenical worship service with Lutherans and Catholics and other Protestant churches celebrating their unity in Jesus Christ. The service of Common Prayer will be held in the church’s sanctuary at 7 pm. We will have Fr. Chris Hess from Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a Deacon from St. Joseph as representatives from our two local Catholic Churches, and clergy from Baptist, Episcopalian, Presbyterian and Methodist churches. The music for the evening worship will be especially memorable as we will have a brass ensemble accompanying our accomplished organist Mr. Bruce Dersch.

In a New York Times article published on Oct. 31, 2016 (the 499th Anniversary of the Reformation), Pope Francis noted Luther’s actions as having a beneficial impact on Catholicism. “With gratitude we acknowledge that the Reformation helped give greater centrality to sacred Scripture in the church’s life,” the pope said during a joint Catholic-Lutheran service in Sweden last year.

I hope you are able to join us for this celebration of our heritage as Lutherans and as a part of the body of Christ as we come together as Christians to celebrate our faith in Jesus Christ.

Come and Celebrate

We gather in worship to celebrate the joys of life, to learn, and to work together in response to the needs of others. For Jesus said " I am the light of the world he who follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life." Life is too valuable to experience alone. We welcome you to participate in our activities and programs to pass that light along.
